The Morning Commute for December 16, 2024.

Welcome to the Morning Commute

Today we’re talking about the transfer portal!

You tired of hearing about that yet? Good, because it’s not stopping any time soon!

Week two of the December window starts today, and Mizzou still has almost all of its work to do (apart from landing the signature of one Kevin Coleman, whom we’ll have more about on the site this afternoon.) Mizzou was active with visits this weekend, so we anticipate some names to come off the board (ideally for the good guys) this week.

Stay tuned to our Transfer Tracker and Rock M+ discussion board for all the latest news and rumors!

Offensively, Mizzou received contributions from all over the place, as six players scored between nine and 16 points.

“In years past, we had three, maybe four players that could create on their own or step up and kind of carry the load,” Pingeton said. “We’re fortunate with where we’re at offensively and the depth that we have.”

One of the chief criticisms of Pingeton has been her inability to build rosters around star players. I suppose one way of addressing that is building a roster with few stars and lots of contributors!

If we know anything at about Nate Edwards, it’s this— our guy LOVES numbers. Since there’s no game analytics, in this thought exercise, he examines the final CFP rankings and hypothesizes if Mizzou would have made the Playoff had they been able to beat South Carolina

Portal shopping is all the rage these days, and I have to admit— it’s exciting. It’s fun! Free agency has always been one of my favorite parts of sports. But at some point Eli Drinkwitz needs to recruit, sign, and then develop a quarterback…

This isn’t even a Drinkwitz problem, this is a problem across college football. There are great quarterbacks but they’re fewer and farther between. As NIL and the transfer portal has provided quick solutions it’s removed the hard ones from the equation.

Matt Zollers, I have an ankle for you if you’d like it.

After a couple rough games to start the season, Nyah Wilson has looked more and more like the star point guard that Mizzou thought they were getting from New Mexico. After some early turnover struggles, Wilson’s ability to pass has been a difference maker. Over her last five games, Nyah is rocking with an 11:3 turnover ratio to serve as a real positive.

After starting the season 5-3, the Tigers are currently on a five-game win streak.

[Fernando] Mendoza has ties to Indiana and Miami, which stand as two very quarterback-needy schools, so it will be tough for Mizzou to pry him away. However, his strength comes in an area that Kirby Moore’s offense requires— the intermediate passing game.

I, too, would like Fernando Mendoza to commit to Mizzou. I think it would be good, and that’s my official analysis.

Dan Keegan: My #1 non-QB want, Josiah Trotter, is reportedly on campus today

One of Army’s running backs is also lining up a visit.
