RMN’s photo editor shares some work from this week’s slate of games.
What a Homecoming week it was for Mizzou! On the gridiron, the Missouri Tigers beat Auburn in a storybook-like victory behind Brady Cook. Elsewhere, soccer beat Oklahoma in a renewal of the old Big 8/12 matchup, and volleyball handled Mississippi State in a thrilling four-set win. Here’s this week’s Tobias Ten!
The Captain

Seriously, what a day it was for Brady Cook. The senior left the game early with an ankle injury, went to the university hospital mid-game, and then came back just before the fourth quarter to lead two drives for 15 points and win the game. Out of a movie, right? I ran on that field and found Cook just as the TV crew did— he looked just as suprised as any fan.
2. Throw up your L’s

A big defensive hero was end Zion Young, who had a sack and two tackles for a loss. After the game, he and the rest of the defense implored fans to “put your L’s up,” a celebration he has often done on the field after making big plays.
3. The Mad Coach

While Missouri’s defense did very well, the offense faltered at times. In the third quarter, Luther Burden III, on punt return duty, fumbled the punt and it was picked up by Auburn for an easy touchdown. I found Eli Drinkwitz here right after, screaming his head off at players on the sidelines.
4. Run-CMC
Missouri defensive tackle Chris McClellan (7) celebrates sacking Auburn quarterback Payton Thorne (1, back) in the third quarter of a game against Auburn on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at Faurot Field in Columbia. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)
I love, love, love a picture which tells the whole story, featuring all athletes involved and not just an isolation of one player. This picture doesn’t even need a caption; you already know what happened. Chris McClellan (7) sacked that fellow in the back (1) and is fired up about it. The defense sacked Auburn’s Payton Thorne three times on Saturday.
5. Selm Slam
Missouri midfielder Leah Selm (12) celebrates with Missouri midfielder Landis Canada (25) after Selm’s goal during a game against Oklahoma on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024, at Walton Stadium. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)
On the soccer field, senior Leah Selm was the star of the Oklahoma game, scoring MU’s first and third goals in their 3-1 victory. Here, she celebrates with freshman Landis Canada.
6. Catch it like OBJ

An old photographer once told me that a really great sports picture was one which made one sport look like an entirely different sport. Doesn’t this great save by OU’s Caroline Duffy look just like a wideout making a great catch?
7. Red card!

One of the funniest things about being a photographer is looking at your pictures after every game and seeing dozens of uncalled fouls. Especially for football— so many times my camera will find what the refs don’t, usually facemasks or holding calls. In this case, I’d call this holding, ten-yard penalty.
8. Between the eyes
Missouri’s Jordan Iliff (4) hits the ball during a game against Mississippi State on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, at the Hearnes Center. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)
I was a little proud of this shot. Look at the eyes! I feel that for every great Missouri athlete who passes through, I’ve got to make at least one really great shot of them before they go. Jordan Iliff is the latest to cross off the list.
9. Big Iron
Missouri assistant coach Cullen Irons talks to the team during a game against Mississippi State on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, at the Hearnes Center. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)
Volleyball assistant Cullen Irons has been handling mid-game strategy sessions a lot lately at Hearnes, and he helped the team win in a extremely tense four-set match over Mississippi State Sunday, including a wild third set which ended 31-29 MSST.
10. Over the top
Missouri’s Mychael Vernon (19) makes a hit during a game against Mississippi State on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, at the Hearnes Center. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)
Transfer Mychael Vernon is really excellent at volleyball. What else is there to say? On Sunday she tallied 22 kills (second only to Iliff). She is sure to be a big part of Missouri’s strategy as they leave their home court and embark on a long road trip in coming weeks.
