Missouri went down south this week to Tuscaloosa, Ala. (“T-Town,” as locals say) and were soundly defeated. I was there, along with our football writers, as we got to experience Alabama’s homecoming and see the 10th-largest stadium in the world. While the team was less than successful, I like to think I still succeeded on the field. Here’s this week’s Tobias Ten.

Drinkwitz Crossing the Tuscaloosa

Right before the Missouri team took the field, I found its leader standing at the tunnel with this American flag flowing behind him. Look like “Washington Crossing the Delaware” to you? Well, this team ought to have some Revolutionary spirit with James Madison on the roster.

2. Ride the Pyne

Missouri quarterback Drew Pyne (6) prepares to throw a pass in the fourth quarter of a game against Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)

Arizona State transfer Drew Pyne entered the game after starter Brady Cook left with a hand injury. Here he is, looking for anyone open around the end of the game.

3. No Call

Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz screams at referees in the first half of a game against Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)

In the first quarter, Alabama defensive back Jaylen Mbakwe signaled for a fair catch on a punt, then bobbled it and tried to advance the ball, which is not legal. However, the refs let it stand. Here’s Eli Drinkwitz giving them an earful.

4. Picked Off

Alabama linebacker Keanu Koht (19) intercepts a Drew Pyne pass over Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III (3) in the third quarter of a game against Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Pyne threw all three of Missouri’s interceptions in the game. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)

Things only got worse for Missouri from there, with backup Drew Pyne throwing three interceptions to the talented Alabama secondary. This one was intended for star MU wideout Luther Burden III.

5. Knocked Down

Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III (3) sits on the field after a ball thrown his way was picked off in the third quarter of a game against Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)

This one wasn’t fun to watch on the field. After Pyne’s pass intended for Burden was picked off, he just sat there and didn’t get up for what felt like a very long time. Things didn’t get better for him, either, he had only three catches on the day.

6. Walk Em Down

Missouri defensive end Johnny Walker Jr. (15) celebrates tackling Alabama punt returner Ryan Williams (2) in the first half of a game against Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)

One bright spot among the growing gloom— D-end Johnny Walker Jr, who sacked Alabama’s Jalen Milroe twice, making sure to do his classic bow-and-arrow celebration.

7. Out of the Arena

Missouri quarterback Brady Cook (12,) who was out for most of the game with an injury, watches Missouri play in the third quarter of a game against Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)

After a hand injury sidelined Brady Cook, after he already was fighting through an ankle injury, all he could do was watch from the sideline. Here he is during the third quarter.

8. Is that a penalty?

Alabama linebacker Justin Jefferson (15) taunts Missouri cornerback Ja’Marion Wayne (25) after Missouri’s Williams Nwaneri was called for roughing the kicker in the third quarter of a game against Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)

Alabama, known in recent weeks for sloppiness, actually committed more penalties for more yards (7-for-85) than Mizzou (5-for-55.) Nevertheless, Tide players still found a way to taunt Mizzou’s Ja’Marion Wayne after a penalty on Williams Nwaneri.

9. That’s gotta be…

Rowdy Alabama fans heckle Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III (3) as he is greeted by Missouri athletic director Laird Veatch after the end of a game against Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)

The home crowd was not to be trifled with, seen here screaming obscenities and taunts towards Burden. At least he’s got athletic director Laird Veatch there with him.

10. The Coach and The Cook

Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz consoles Missouri quarterback Brady Cook (12) as they leave the field after the end of a game against Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. (CAL TOBIAS/ROCK M NATION)

My favorite picture of the day: head coach Drinkwitz comforting his QB, Brady Cook, after the loss. The two have been through a great deal together in the last few years and it’s nice to see the support between each other once again.
