The CFP is off the table, but fans still know the significance of a 10-win season.
You want to know what some of us at Rock M are morbidly curious about heading into this weekend’s StarkVegas road trip? I’m sure it’s on some of your minds as well.
Obviously the story of last week’s loss to South Carolina — other than it being the second-most-painfull loss to the Gamecocks in program history — was that Mizzou’s upstart bid at a College Football Playoff spot is officially off the table. The Tigers are still in the CFP “conversation” being ranked No. 23, but the chances of them actually getting a spot are all but kaput.
Anyway, the curiosity. We want to know how Mizzou will respond to that goal of theirs being dashed against the metaphorical rocks. The Tigers were thinking of themselves as a playoff contender as recently as two weeks ago, and the reality of not getting a spot will likely come as a blow to the team’s morale. So will they view the rest of the season as a consolation prize? Or will they look at the history of the program and realize they still have a chance to put themselves amongst historical Mizzou elites? Not many Tiger teams have reached the 10-win summit, and it would be a special accomplishment off the back of such a chaotic season.
Fans at least are invested in seeing it happen.

That’s more than 75 percent of folks saying they’re still bought in on what Mizzou can do in 2024. That’s quite strong considering the disappointment that this campaign has wrought at times.
As for confidence? Fans are also pretty certain the Tigers can get to that bowl with a shot at win No. 10, though maybe not as certain as they are about how much they’d like to see it.

Almost half of y’all saying you’re somewhat confident makes a lot of sense. I, too, think Missouri should win their final two games. But beating Arkansas isn’t a given even in their worst years. That’s what rivalry games do to a program. So with 10 wins still on the table, we’ll continue holding our collective breath, waiting to see if the Tigers will deliver on one of their goals.
