What Eli Drinkwitz, Al Davis and Chris McClellan had to say on Tuesday’s edition of “Tiger Talk”.
With a trip to Alabama on the horizon, Eli Drinkwitz, Al Davis and Chris McCellan joined Mike Kelly on “Tiger Talk”. Here’s what they had to say:
Eli Drinkwitz | Head coach
Emphasized two-minute drills during practice last week, played a big part in Mizzou’s performance against Auburn
Defensive coordinator Corey Batoon thought Jamal Roberts should’ve gone down before scoring with under a minute left in regulation because he thought there’d be too much time left on the clock for Auburn’s offense to go down and potentially score. Drinkwitz disagreed, fueled by experience on intentionally running the clock low against Auburn in 2022 when Harrison Mevis missed the potential game-winning chip shot.
Zion Young has unbelievable energy and juice.
Reiterated a “this play” philosophy in regards to bouncing back from mistakes.
Knew the tackle on Brady Cook that got him injured wasn’t right. Initial diagnosis was a high ankle sprain, he was told he was done for the game. Midway through third quarter, Cook was testing the ankle; shortly after, he said he was good to go, much to the bewilderment of Drinkwitz.
Mike Kelly called Cook the “ultimate True Son”.
Drinkwitz Attributed 17-3 record in last 20 games to Brady Cook, proceeded to go on a very long pro-Cook spiel.
Eli Drinkwitz on Tiger Talk delivers a passionate speech on Brady Cook. Slightly abridged version: “You started the show saying that we’re 17-3 in the last 20 games. … So the best 20 game (stretch in team history), who’s the quarterback? Brady Cook is the quarterback. …

Thankful for partnership with MU Healthcare in regards to Cook going to the hospital and getting the care he needed during the game.
Can’t play hesitant at Alabama, can’t let external factors affect us.
Shouts out Blair Murphy, whp’s running for Columbia mayor
Al Davis | Defensive Line Coach
The boys stayed in the fight on Satruday. The boys locked in.
Told his guys to “stay in the moment”.
The defensive line room’s identity is that they’re going to do everything right on and off the field. Calls the room the “trench mob”.
During his senior year at Arkansas, Al Davis helped coach. That was the genesis his coaching career.
One great thing about Corey Batoon is that he wants to see stuff through everyone’s lenses.
Kristian Williams is a hard-hat guy. Wears full pads in team meetings. He’s the first and last person in the building, is also a major perfectionist.
Chris McClellan | Defensive lineman
Mike Kelly appreciated McClellan introducing himself over the summer with a handshake + eye contact
In terms of scheme, McClellan didn’t want to play in a system that was “react and attack” like at Florida. He just wanted to attack.
Loved how the Mizzou guys interacted with each other. The sense of brotherhood was strong.
There’s no bashing, no pointing fingers within the team. They uplift each other.
During an off day, McClellan said he’s likely “on the couch”.
Big Wingstop and Chipotle guy.
