Who doesn’t love a trip to Starkvegas?

Ahhh Mississippi. The 48th ranked state in the Union. The ‘Sip ranks just ahead of Louisiana and New Mexico on the ole US News ‘Best States’ rankings. Missouri, by the way, is 35th.

Why does Mississippi suck? Well, mainly the economy ranks dead last, and they’re ranked last in health care. They incarcerate nearly twice as many people as the national average, and 30% of their roads are rated as in Poor condition, versus the national average of 18.3%. As a side note, I’d like to know how the national average is so low because I’ve driven on lots of these roads and man it feels way higher.

So basically, Mississippi kind of sucks.

Why am I bringing this up, you ask? What does it have to do with football? Well, not a lot exactly. But also there’s no real rivalry here with the MSU Bulldogs. The two teams have been in the same league now for more than a decade and have played twice. Mizzou beat MSU two times way back in the 80s, and the two didn’t meet again until 2015 when Gary Pinkels struggling program had already jettisoned Matty Mauk and were relying upon true freshman Drew Lock. Meanwhile Dan Mullen, yes Dan Mullen, was running out senior Dak Prescott on his way to winning 9 games.

Needless to say that game was a bit of a rout.

Then in 2020 Mizzou travelled down to Starkville for the first time and were resoundingly punished by Mike Leach for having a few key members of their defense out with a positive COVID test. What fun those days were, eh?

So Mizzou hasn’t beaten MSU since joining the SEC, and they’re 0-1 in Starkville. Let’s change that this weekend! As always, for more on the actual football team, check out Nate’s preview or watch the BTBS preview here:
