We want Bama!
This feels a bit like a light week. Even looking at the slate of games and there aren’t many marquee options. Number 1 Oregon takes on a ranked Illinois team at home, but I’m not sure how much that moves the needle. College GameDay is in Bloomington for Indiana against a 4-3 Washington team, which it’s kind of fun to see Indiana good but that’s really the what they went with? Then SEC Nation is in Tuscaloosa for this game of the Missouri Tigers versus the Evil Empire Crimson Tide.
Even sans Nick Saban it’s hard to see the Tide as the empire they once were. Perhaps that mantle belongs to the Kirby Smart led Georgia Bulldogs, their lawlessness seems like a good fit. But still, there’s no bluer blue blood than the Alabama Crimson Tide, a team with more bowl appearances than anyone, a .751 win percentage, 61 seasons finishing ranked in the AP poll, 141 weeks at #1 overall, and 15 national championships with 6 of them coming under Nick Saban.
Missouri hasn’t had much success in facing the more modern iteration of the Crimson Tide. After starting 2-0 against Alabama with wins in 1968 and 1957, Missouri has lost 5 straight with four being as SEC Conference mates. Mizzou lost by 32 at home in 2012, 39 in the SEC Championship game in 2014, 29 in Tuscaloosa in 2018, and by 19 in Columbia in 2020.
I don’t want this to come off like a lot of Missouri fans looking for moral victories, but it sure would be nice to not see a blowout. But we don’t even know if Brady Cook is going to be able to play, and if he does how well he can play. Before the season most Mizzou fans had this marked as a likely loss, Vegas is giving Bama 17 points (!!!), and we don’t know how healthy our QB is. Ok, but maybe we just beat Bama!
