The Morning Commute for December 9, 2024.
Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about transfers. Spoiler alert: It’s almost all we’ll be talking about for the next three weeks.
Today, the NCAA Transfer Portal officially opens for college football, meaning the most chaotic time of the sport’s calendar is set to fall right in the middle of bowl season. Great timing, gang, just super.
We’ve already seen some movement on the Mizzou side of things, and we know the Tigers are looking shopping in at least one very important position. We’ve got our Transfer Tracker up and the Portal thread running on Rock M+. Join us at both places as we try to keep track of the madness.

“Our guys never severed, never went in different directions,” Gates said. “They stayed connected, they stayed true to the scouting report, and they challenge each other and those that were challenged responded the right way.”
This post is taking me forever because I keep watching highlights!
The Hawkeyes come into this matchup with an 8-4 overall record (6-3 Big Ten) under head coach Kirk Ferentz after winning three out of their last four games.
Ironically, this was supposed to be Missouri’s same bowl opponent and matchup in the Tigers’ first season under Eli Drinkwitz, but Mizzou opted out due to COVID in 2020.
We’ll have plenty of info coming about the Hawkeyes, including our first “crash course” on Ferentz’s team later today.
“Every day, they show up for each other and they really battle, and they’re a true family,” head coach Dawn Sullivan said, “they’re a true sisterhood, and through the good, the bad, the ugly it doesn’t matter.”
The Tigers will get a third crack at beating Kentucky, against whom they are 0-2 on the season.
- If you’re looking to catch up on last week’s #content, Karen’s Digest has you covered!
- Over at Rock M+, we’re talking about ABOUT HOW MIZZOU BEAT kU HAHAHAHA
Mizzou moves up 11 spots to No. 35 in NET. What’s nuts is there are a dozen SEC squads inside the top 50. Assuming MU handles its business the rest of the way, its league docket should more than juice SOS.
Pretty wild how one win can change the outlook of a season so fast.
