The Morning Commute for October 21, 2024.

Welcome to the Morning Commute

Today we’re talking about the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

Relax, I know we should be talking more about the Auburn game. We will, just check back later or scroll down to see what you missed yesterday.

This weekend, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame honored a long list of Missouri sports greats, but it was an especially exciting day for a certain generation of Mizzou Tiger.

We got to see QB1 and our ESPN turned J-School professor king go in together…

Honored to go onto the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame with the legend, John Anderson.

We got to see one of the great wrestlers to ever walk through Brian Smith’s program go in…

And many more Mizzou figures, including former Walk-On of the Year Chuck Cole!

For a full list of inductees, check out this KOMU story from September. Quentin, Karen, and Abigail were guests of the J-School and got to take in the festivities.

In which Sam noted that Mizzou has the power to write its own ending to the 2024 story

I don’t know if this season will end with a storybook ending, most likely not. After all storybooks aren’t real life. We occasionally get something fun like yesterday, but more often than not someone else hoists the big trophy at the end of the year. Someone else walks off to cheesy 70s rock athems blaring with confetti falling.

But it’s not about what happens next. To get to that part at all, you had to play yesterday out as it did.

One of the key tenets of storybooks is that they have happy endings, but another is that the main characters go through lots of adversity. Just saying!

In which Matthew recapped volleyball’s four-set win over Mississippi State on Sunday.

Vernon sealed the win with her 22nd kill of the match, taking set four 25-18 and extending the Tigers’ win streak to four matches.
Iliff and Vernon lifted the team to victory in the fourth frame, each recording seven kills, while the Oregon State transfer also added five digs.

The Tigers wrapped up their homestand undefeated with four victories, including three over SEC teams. Dawn Sullivan has this team on fire… except during set 3, which continually causes them issues.

In which Chad notes the opening odds for next weekend, including Mizzou’s trip to ‘Bama

2:30 pm (ABC) – Mizzou at Alabama (-13.5 / 54.5 total)

NOW – Hard to gauge this one with the health of Brady Cook’s injured ankle in question. You have to assume ‘Bama is fighting mad after their loss to rival Tennessee last week…

I don’t know, Chad. Will they be mad, or will they be apathetic?

Over at Rock M+, we’re talking about PFF grades from Auburn, SEC Nation’s trip to Tuscaloosa and some random CBB scrimmages that Watkins watched!
