The Morning Commute for Wednesday, January 1

Welcome to the Morning Commute

Today we’re talking about Mizzou Hoops.

Happy New Year, Mizzou fans! We hope you’re still celebrating the Music City Bowl victory, but now it’s really onto college basketball season.

Conference play starts on Saturday for Missouri at No. 2 Auburn — and Mizzou is currently on the bubble entering SEC play.

In Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology — the Tigers are the First Team Out of the field.

An 11-2 non-conference record has put Missouri in solid position for a chance to make the Big Dance entering SEC play, but the Tigers will need more Quad 1 wins on their resume. They will have their opportunities in the best conference in college hoops.

Eight league wins might be the magic number to clinch an at-large bid this season. The path is there if Missouri (11-0 at home this season) can continue to take care of business at Mizzou Arena.

“The win ends Mizzou’s season at 10-3, giving the Tigers back-to-back double-digit win seasons for just the third time in program history (2007-2008, 2013-2014, 2023-2024).”

Back-to-back 10-win seasons are rare. Enjoy it, Mizzou fans.

“The play was originally stuffed by tackling ace Corey Flagg Jr. jumping over the line, which stopped Sullivan just enough to allow Daylan Carnell to burst through and stop him in his tracks.”

Missouri’s defense wasn’t great, but they made the play that mattered the most.

“After losing his first two postseason trips as Missouri’s head coach, Eli Drinkwitz now has a pair of prestigious Big 10 wins on his CV.”

Mizzou is carrying the SEC in bowl season!

“This team has high aspirations: Finish in the top half of the SEC, reach the evening session of the SEC Championships, return to Nationals as a team. These are not unattainable goals.”

Mizzou Gymnastics has high expectations entering this season. Follow Karen for all of the coverage.
