The Morning Commute for Tuesday, December 10

Welcome to the Morning Commute

Today we’re talking about Mizzou Basketball (obviously).

After Mizzou’s 76-67 over kU in the Border War on Sunday afternoon, the Tigers are receiving votes in both the latest USA Today Coaches’ Poll and AP Top 25. In the latest NET rankings, Mizzou comes in at No. 35 — jumping 11 spots.

In Andy Katz’s latest Power 37 Rankings — Mizzou comes in at No. 24.

“Say hello to the Tigers, who were 0-18 in the SEC last season. Missouri beat rival Kansas Sunday to send a strong message to the rest of the SEC that they have returned from the abyss.”

Dick Vitale’s Team of the Week? How about them Tigers!

Tamar Bates stole the show on Sunday — leading Mizzou with 29 points. He was named NCAA March Madness’ Player of the Week, and the SEC Player of the Week.

What a Sunday for Mizzou Basketball. Overall, it’s a great time to be a Tiger fan.

“Today, the NCAA Transfer Portal officially opens for college football, meaning the most chaotic time of the sport’s calendar is set to fall right in the middle of bowl season.”

This is going to be wild.

“On a larger scale, Sunday was a statement regarding basketball talent in Missouri. It culminated in a moment that Bates said he shared with Mitchell and fellow Kansas City-area native Aidan Shaw amidst a sea of people.”

There were also plenty of local recruits visiting the Mizzou game on Sunday. Can’t hurt.

“The Hawkeyes got here by virtue of an 8-4 season in the Big Ten. In some ways, when one side of the ball is that atrocious, that feels like a successful campaign. On the other, Iowa has sported a championship defense for years now, and wasted a moribund offense.”

Iowa’s defense is elite. Their offense, however, … yikes.

Great pics from Cal from Mizzou’s win over kU, plus Mizzou WBB in the SEC-ACC Challenge.

“Also, by winning a recruit from a fertile recruiting ground that Mizzou has never (successfully anyway) entered in the past, Jacob Peeler once again proves his incredible value to the Mizzou program.”

Jacob Peeler is an elite wide receiver recruiter.

“The SEC is going to be a grind, but Missouri will absolutely be a factor in conference play.”

Are the Tigers a sleeper in the best conference in college basketball?
