The Morning Commute for Friday, November 29, 2024.

Welcome to the Morning Commute

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving yesterday!

With the holiday yesterday it really was a quiet sports day in the ol’ Mizzou arena. Wednesday knocked out a bunch of last minute pre-holiday games and Sammy had it covered in yesterday’s commute. In Tigerland, there was nothing but turkey yesterday and nothing but recovering from turkey today.

There’s plenty of college football action happening today. I’ll have the slate posting shortly in the How to Watch post. Meanwhile College Basketball has been on fire. The Battle 4 Atlantis has sent some surprising results back our way, three ranked teams began the tourney, Gonzaga (#3) and Indiana (#14) both lost in the first round. Then unranked Oklahoma took down Arizona in the semi final. So the final is going to be Louisville versus Oklahoma, and Indiana is going to try to avoid losing three straight in the 7th place game against Kim English’s Providence squad.

This is all after reigning champion UConn took three losses in the Maui Invitational and fell from 6th in KenPom down to 28th. College basketball is looking pretty wide open these days.

On the Missouri front, we have an update on Caleb Grill from a Mizzou spokesman yesterday afternoon:

Caleb Grill suffered a neck injury during Missouri’s contest versus Lindenwood Wednesday night. He underwent further tests following the game and was discharged last night after they revealed no spinal cord injury. A timeline for his return has not yet been determined.

Here’s to hoping Grill is able to spin himself back up quickly and be ready to start draining more threes for the Tigers soon.

Yesterday at Rock M and Rock M+

Within that group of 27 are five players that have been with the program since Drinkwitz’s first season in 2020 — punter Luke Bauer, quarterback Brady Cook, center Drake Heismeyer, linebacker Will Norris and defensive end Johnny Walker, Jr. All of them committed to Mizzou when the program was nowhere near the heights it would ultimately reach — heck, they remained committed despite a head coaching change. Their loyalty eventually paid off.

While this season hasn’t gone the way many Mizzou fans had hoped, winning Saturday would make the Tigers 19-5 in the regular season over the last two years. That’s something I think we all would have taken at the start of the year two years ago. So… go beat Arky.

With one game remaining, it’s looking like Missouri could be heading to Las Vegas, Music City, or the Gator Bowl. I think Mizzou has had a good enough season to avoid the Liberty or Texas Bowl, but the Citrus Bowl is probably out of the question. The best-case scenario for the Tigers might be the Gator Bowl.

You’re making me pick between upsetting my alma mater and my readers here.

In the end, I think I’m going to pick Missouri. I think Mizzou has the big-play threats on offense that have caused Arkansas issues throughout the season to get the job done. I think the Tigers win 34-27.

True son!

Today, as the title states, we break down film from Mizzou’s buy games these last couple weeks, as well as take a look at Mark Mitchells game. This is The Verdict.

This is a subscriber only feature and we’re pretty excited about it.
