The Morning Commute for Wednesday, December 4th

Welcome to the Morning Commute

Today we’re talking about ‘crootin’.

For those of you self-identifying college football recruiting junkies, ‘tis the season for you! All the madness of the early signing period and the transfer portal opening up over the next couple of weeks will create tons of chaos all over the country.

If you love everything about commitments, decommitments, rumors, innuendos, hat tosses at signing ceremonies, and lots of palace intrigue, you’re in business because it all starts today with the first day of the early signing period. Next week the transfer portal opens officially for three weeks and the madness truly begins as coaches start rebuilding their rosters through free agency.

Rock M Nation will be a continuing source of updates during this wild period, so be sure to check out the latest happenings right here, and then go to RockM+ to discuss it with your buddies.

Here’s a look at the key college football recruiting dates in 2024-25:

  • Early Signing Period: Wednesday, Dec. 4 through Friday, Dec. 6
  • Transfer Portal opens: Monday, Dec. 9 and through Saturday, Dec. 28
  • Traditional Signing Period: Wednesday, Feb. 5 through Tuesday, April 1.

After a 17-2 run in the first half had Cal up 16 at the half, the Tigers rode a 63-42 second half performance to a 98-93 victory.

Anthony Robinson II led the way with a career-best 29 points as he continues to establish himself as a star for the Tigers, who will need to avoid long scoring droughts this Sunday when they play host to the No. 1 team in the nation – some alleged university to the west.

That was this season in a nutshell: effective but feeling like so much more potential was left unmet. We may never know why exactly this (nearly identical) offense was so much less explosive than it’s ‘23 counterpart but, at the end of the day, this team nearly always did just enough to win.

This season was basically even steven. So much to remember fondly, and so much to lament about what could have been.

Was Mizzou as good as we’d hoped? No, but they were still pretty damn good. Good enough to beat three-quarters of the teams that ran out to face them. The fact that we get to feel disappointed about that shows that the Tigers are going in the right direction.

I think that sums up nicely what many of us Tiger fans are feeling – tugs on both sides of the spectrum between elation and disappointment.

In his senior season at Sachse High School, Haygood had 151 carries for 1,590 yards with 16 touchdowns in 11 games. He had seven games with 100+ rushing yards.

If you’re a running back, Mizzou is becoming a pretty attractive destination spot, based on the early results from Eliah Drinkwitz’ tenure.

  • Tuesday’s Morning Commute by Sammy Stava had some first-of-the-season men’s hoops rankings to ponder, as well as a bunch of follow-up from Mizzou’s big win over Arkansas.

The first NET rankings of the college basketball season were released on Monday morning, and with a record of 6-1, Mizzou Hoops comes in at No. 46 in the country with their only loss in the season opener on the road to Memphis.

Mizzou is one of 11 SEC teams to make the top 50 of the initial NET ranking of the season!

The early signing period for football begins today and goes through Dec. 6th, so be sure to stay attuned to all of the news on Rock M Nation and RockM+.
