You won’t have to wait long for the game of the day.
Mizzou isn’t playing. 🙁
Maybe the expansion of the playoff (a good thing!) has lessened the importance of Championship saturday, but the day still holds value. Maybe for some it’s playoffs or bust, but in reality winning a conference championship should still matter.
Iowa State has 2 conference championships in their 127 year history. Arizona State has 17 in their 91 season history. Georgia has 14 in 121 years, Texas has 31 in 123 years. Penn State has 4 in 131 years, Oregon has 13 in 107 years. Clemson has 23 in 123 years and SMU has 11 in 107 seasons.
That’s 8 teams and 930 total seasons of football and just 115 championships. Championship games tend to involve the elite of the elite in college football and even these teams have only amassed 12.3% of the championships for their conferences over the years. And only half are going to actually win a conference championship.
Missouri hasn’t won a conference championship since 1969. So fans should be more appreciative when it does happen. Maybe one of these days.
