Never fear friends, Best Bets finished the last real week of the regular season once again on a high note, going 2-1 (4-2 overall). On the season, Best Bets sits at quite solid 25-19 while our overall picks are back in the black at 43-41-2. Unless we completely tank Conference Championship Week this week, we’re gonna finish with a little more cash in our pockets than we started the year with. Let’s get to it!
Best Bets
Mountain West Championship: UNLV @ Boise State (-4)
Boise State has already beaten UNLV once this year by more than four points and that game was in Las Vegas. The Mountain West championship game is in Boise, which for a Rebels team that plays indoors, will be a different match up entirely. It’s not going to be overly frigid on Friday night, but there is a low of 28 degrees, which will be the coldest game UNLV has played in this year. Give me Ashton Jeanty and the Broncos to control the clock and win the game by at least a touchdown.
SEC Championship: Georgia (+2.5) vs. Texas
This line is quite strange considering Georgia already completely destroyed Texas once this year in Austin. I’m not quite sure why the Bulldogs are now underdogs playing a virtual home game in Atlanta against a Texas team that has had serious problems scoring points in recent weeks. This should be a close game, but I think Georgia will pull it out so I’m more than willing to take the 2.5 points.
Big 10 Championship: Penn State vs. Oregon (-3.5)
I said it earlier this year when Penn State played Ohio State and I’ll say it again now. Penn State doesn’t win big games. I would say playing in their first ever Big 10 championship game against the only undefeated team in the country would qualify as a big game. The Ducks aren’t going to blow out Penn State, but they will win the game and I don’t think it’ll feel in doubt after half time.
Worth a look
ACC: Clemson vs. SMU (-2.5)
SMU has been defying the odds all season and look at them now… favorites in their inaugural ACC season to win the league championship. Clemson backed into this game thanks to Miami’s failures down the stretch and the Tigers are a shell of their former selves. I think SMU puts up serious points on Clemson and wins this one going away.
Big 12 Championship: Iowa State vs. Arizona State (-2)
Ah yes, the game we’ve been expecting since August. The Cyclones in their first ever Big 12 championship game and Arizona State in their first Big 12 season facing off for a trip to the playoffs. Kenny Dillingham deserves national coach of the year honors for the incredible job he’s done this year with the Sun Devils and I don’t think their magical season ends here. Cam Skattebo will run for 150 yards and the Sun Devils will find themselves in the playoffs.
MAC Championship: Ohio vs Miami (OH) (-2.5)
Miami (OH) is one of the hottest teams in the country, winning their last seven games to qualify for the MAC championship. They have already played (and beaten) Ohio once this season and there is no reason to think they can’t do the same again in Detroit on Saturday. Give me the Redhawks to repeat as MAC champions and win their third MAC title in six years.
